Casino chips…who do they really belong to?

Posted by admin On March - 16 - 2007

The next time you are at casino and decide to cash in someone else’s chips or accept chips from someone as repayment of a debt…you’d better think twice.

I guess I always knew the chips are the property of the casino.  If you find a $100 chip on the floor technically…it is not yours, it is the casinos and should be turned in (yeah right!).  Well this takes it to a whole new level.

New business venture underway - No Limits VIP

Posted by admin On March - 15 - 2007

For the past seven years I have run my own technology consulting firm, Arten Technology Group, Inc.  Yes, I know the web site is out of date but it is currently being revamped so be patient.  Running my own business has been a great experience and we have done well for the past seven years focusing primarily on IT consulting and custom software development in the financial services/insurance industry.   While developing software for the calculation of projected death benefits or predictive modeling of prospect to customer transitions may not be the most exciting subject to discuss across a coffee table; it does pay the bills.

A while back, my wife pulled me aside and commented on my interest in poker and said I should build “some kinda software” for poker.  I wish it were that easy…and with approx 10,000 online poker sites out there already…that idea was already taken.  It was always in the back of my mind and it was not until about 8 months ago when a unique opportunity presented itself and we are now where we are at today.

Early this week, a project of mine finally launched , No Limits VIP Club.  There is a lot to this, some on the sight more to follow in the near future.  But to provide you with the elevator speech, “No Limits VIP Club is going to be one of the leading tournament poker and tournament blackjack affinity groups in the country providing its members and marketing partners with priveledged access to opportunities unique only to the No Limits community.

If you are a member of the poker community (from the tournament circuit to the Thursday night home game)…don’t be shy.  Start contributing to our community at one of No Limits’  public forums and I look forward to bringing my vision to you in the near future.

Vacation is over !

Posted by admin On March - 10 - 2007

It was great getting away for a little over a week.   We had the best of weather including a few days over 90 degrees; which even the local took some extra time to enjoy.   Highlights of the trip included a day at the Kennedy Space Center.  Any parents out there vacationing in the Cape Canaveral area, or leaving on a cruise from Port Canaveral should really think about spending an extra day to see your tax dollars at work.

The Up Close tour is amazing (esp. since the Atlantis was still out on the pad); there are some very cool IMAX movies and event the view of the wildlife is quite impressive.  There is no shortage of alligator sightings and seeing the bald eagle’s in their nests high above the ground was very cool.  One of the nests viewed is though to be over 50 years old and 8 feet wide!

The majority of our trip was spent in a little town north of Vero Beach called Sebastian.  It is located on the east coast about 70 miles south east of Orlando.  We took a little break from the rut of vacation dining and found a little Jamaican restuarant in a strip mall called the Mo Bay Grill.  Compliments to the chef as all of our dinners were excellent!

Sebastian is a popular destination for east coast surfers as the Sebastian Inlet’s man made jetty provides a point break which is what I understand surfers like.  My brother-in-law surfs and that is about how far my knowledge on the subject goes.   From my understanding the other East Coast location for similar point break surfing is Manasquan Inlet on the Jersey Shore (which is where we vacation every summer).  Maybe I should take up surfing?  We were lucky to catch a couple of 90 degree days which made time at the beach very nice.

Even the locals were enjoying the unseasonably warm Florida weather.  Ah yes…all things do have to come to an end though.  We were hit with the equivalent of a 500 mega volt taser gun when we landed in sunny New Hampshire’s 5 degree weather with a wind chill dropping the temp to below -10.

TSA take notice…we are going to lift the ban on human cloning

Posted by admin On February - 27 - 2007

It has been a while since I have flown…well at least since the liquid and gel ban on flights.  I never thought I would be saying this but the TSA employee at Manchester, NH airport this AM did a great job.  With a mix of humor, common sense and oh yeah.. a personality showing the desire to provide some customer service… “Ron” managed to keep a long line orderly and moving quickly while keeping everyone informed and prepared to do what was needed once they got to the front of the line.   He appealed to the young and old and kept over 50+ people waiting on his words for what he was going to say next.

I am planning on starting a campaign to lobby congress to lift the ban on human cloning.  We need to replace all front-line TSA personnell with Ron’s clones.  Thanks Ron, for making our trip safe and getting me through the check-in line quickly with the kids before I had a my first morning dose of caffine.

Downtime.

Yesterday’s tournament was a big disappointment.  Sometimes everything goes wrong.  You play disciplined poker for hours, folding every hand waiting for 2 decent cards to play a pot with.  You got a guy at the table playing every hand, calling every raise and winning with top, middle, bottom pair.  You finally make a move with what is your best hand and end up laying it down after committing 50% of your chip stack. Desperation sets in as the antes start to get large and you now switch gears to playing low to mid level cards aggressively; but just do not hit any flops.  Enough whining.

Everyone over the Poker Room at Seabrook Greyhound Park should be applauded for kicking off and running an excellent 370 person tournament.  Once the cards were in the air the room silenced to a hush with the sounds of clinging chips and the ominous “seat open” heard.

Getting ready to hit the FL coast with the family for what is some much needed downtime.  I’ll end up working part of the time; but we have a great trip planned with visits at Universal, Kennedy Space Center and some good ol-fashioned treasure hunting…

Batteries in need of serious recharge.

Final note…always interested in happenings on the Jersey Shore I have been following the happenings with the girl,  Antonella Barba, from the neighboring town of Pt. Pleasant.  Unfortunately for her and her family the news is not good news and she is another American Idol contestant with the crosshairs of the media/internet locked right on her.  Not much to say..other than you kids out there better be careful when picking your friends esp. if they own a digital camera.  My college room mate used to always make judgement calls on any future action by determining if he wanted to review them with a group of U.S. senators during a congressional confirmation hearing.  I guess instead he should have lowered the bar and been concerned about a reality TV show disapproving; but that was the late 80s the internet was just being hatched by Al Gore and reality TV was called the evening news.
